However, Vance also said that Ewan suggested to him that the family should move to England after spending a hot day in Jaipur, where they visited the Amber Fort earlier today. “But after about 90 minutes in the Jaipur sun, he suggested that maybe we should move to England. So, you take the good with the bad here,” he said amid laughter from the audience.

Calling PM Modi a “special person”, Vance recalled his first meeting with the Prime Minister at the AI Action Summit in February and presenting a gift to his second son, Vivek, on his fifth birthday.

“He managed to figure out that my second son was turning five in Paris. This was a couple of months ago. Amid a huge international policy conference, he took the time to stop by where I was staying and wish Vivek a very happy birthday and even bring him a gift. Usha and I were genuinely touched by his graciousness,” the US Vice President said.

He said his children – Ewan, Vivek and three-year-old daughter Mirabel – built a rapport with PM Modi and US President Donald Trump.

“We have been even more impressed by his warmth since we arrived in India. Our kids really liked and built a rapport with two world leaders – the first is President Trump. He just have a certain energy about them. And PM Modi, he is the exact same thing. They like him a lot. The kids are such good and strong characters,” he said.

“I also like the PM too and I think it’s a great foundation for the future of our relationship,” he further said.

JD VANCE IN INDIA

Vance and his family landed in Delhi after their trip to Italy over the weekend. Vance is the first US Vice President to visit India in 12 years after Joe Biden visited Delhi in 2013.

The Vances visited the Akshardham temple near the banks of the Yamuna and the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) in Janpath.

Vance met with PM Modi in the evening and held wide-ranging talks focusing on boosting cooperation in areas of defence, energy and strategic technologies. During the meeting, PM Modi had a special moment with Vance’s children and gifted them peacock feathers.

Following the meeting, India and the US said Monday that they made “significant progress” in negotiations for a mutually beneficial bilateral trade pact. New Delhi and Washington are holding negotiations to seal a bilateral trade agreement as agreed during PM Modi’s talks with Trump in Washington DC in February.

The trade pact is expected to address a variety of issues including tariffs and market access. India is looking at firming up the first tranche of the trade pact before Trump’s pause on the customised reciprocal tariffs lapses.

The Vances then visited Jaipur, where they visited the historic Amber Fort, which is located just 11 kilometres from the centre of the city. The fort is a Unesco world heritage site.

The US Vice President and his family will travel to Agra on the morning of April 23, where they will visit the Taj Mahal and Shilpgram, which is an open air emporium showcasing various Indian artefacts, people familiar with the matter said.

After concluding their visit to Agra, the Vances will return to Jaipur on the second half of April 23. They will depart for the US from Jaipur on April 24, according to the people cited above.
