Over 20 Delhi schools receive bomb threats, searches on

Former Delhi CM Atishi criticised the BJP for failing to ensure safety as over 50 Delhi schools received bomb threats.

Over 50 schools in Delhi received bomb threat mails on Friday morning, officials aware of the matter said. Search is underway with bomb disposal teams and squads present at the schools.

According to an official aware of the matter, the schools which have received the email include St Xaviers in Civil Lines, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Abhinav Public School in Rohini and The Sovereign School in Rohini, among others whose details are yet to be ascertained.

At least seven schools across Delhi received bomb threat emails on Wednesday — the third consecutive day of such hoax mails in the national Capital.

Two educational institutions in Delhi – St Stephen’s College in North Campus and St Thomas School in Dwarka – received bomb threat emails on Tuesday morning, prompting search operations. The threats came a day after three city schools received similar hoax messages.

Deputy commissioner of police (North) Raja Banthia said the email to St Stephen’s College was received around 7:15am. It claimed that four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two packets of RDX had been planted at multiple locations on campus, including the library, and that they would detonate by 2pm.

Police said Monday’s bomb threats to three other schools were also hoaxes.

Investigators on Wednesday said that a 12-year-old boy from south Delhi was traced in connection with one of these threats.

“The boy, a student of a private school, used his personal mobile phone to send the hoax email. He was questioned, counselled, and sent home. He told us it was a prank and he’s undergoing treatment for a mental health condition,” said a senior officer.

Former Delhi chief minister and AAP leader Atishi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the national capital, saying, “More than 20 schools have received bomb threats today! Think of the trauma that children, parents and teachers would be going through. BJP controls all 4-engines of governance in Delhi, and is yet not able to provide any safety or security to our children! Shocking!”
