Google is making communication on Android devices even more convenient with a new update for its Gemini assistant app. As reported by 9to5Google, the update introduces a highly anticipated feature: the ability to make calls and send text messages directly from the lock screen, without needing to unlock your phone.
Previously, making calls or sending messages while your phone was locked required unlocking the device and navigating through apps. This new feature bypasses these steps, allowing users to initiate communication instantly with a simple tap.
How to use the feature
The “Make calls and send messages without unlocking” feature is currently rolling out to Gemini users in a phased manner. To access it, navigate to Settings within the Gemini app and select “Gemini on Lock Screen.” Ensure that “Phone” and “Messages” Gemini Extensions are also enabled for optimal functionality.
While the feature prioritises convenience, security remains paramount. To access this functionality, users will likely need to set up a PIN or other secure screen lock method. Additionally, Google may limit the content of messages that can be sent through the lock screen to prevent unauthorised access or misuse.
This update streamlines communication and allows users to leverage their voice assistant to an even greater extent.
