Google Slides get new modes: What are they and how to use

Google is simplifying the process for users to switch between different modes in Slides. With the new change, it will become easier for Google Slides users to edit, view, and comment.

The company is introducing a view mode that enables users who want to hide comments within a presentation or avoid accidental edits. Google Slides is also getting the commenting mode that will hide all editing options.

How to change modes in Google Slides

To change modes, users need to navigate to View > Mode and select the desired mode. Google said that the feature will be available to Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
In addition, Google has introduced a feature that allows users to scroll and zoom in or out on their content directly from Google Meet. This eliminates the need to switch between tabs while working on Google Slides, helping users focus more on delivering their presentations.

Google shuts down GPay in US

In other news, Google has announced the closure of its standalone GPay app for US users. Effective June 4, 2024, the GPay app will no longer be available on the Google Play Store or function on existing devices. This decision comes alongside the discontinuation of peer-to-peer (P2P) payment functionality within the region.
Google emphasizes a shift in strategy, aiming to consolidate mobile payment services within the Google Wallet app. Users will now manage payment methods, tap to pay at stores, and pay online directly through Google Wallet.
Google hasn’t explicitly stated the reasons behind shutting down the GPay app. However, some speculate it could be a streamlining effort to simplify user experience and potentially reduce development costs.
