Instagram experienced widespread service disruptions on Wednesday as reports on social media indicated that the Meta-owned platform was offline for some users.

Downdetector also reported that Instagram’s website, and not its app, was facing a great majority of the outage. The site indicated that the number of people complaining had fallen at the time of writing.

There has been no update from Instagram yet on why the website was not accessible.

Instagram down: Users react on X

According to multiple X posts, the website was inaccessible or showing errors such as “Sorry, something went wrong.”

A user on X reported that they got the same message after they tried to comment under a post. They wrote, “Commented under a meme and then got this after going to my messages. Instagram is down.”

Another user shared a screenshot of the Instagram website displaying the same message and wrote, “Yes, please fix it as quickly as you can.@instagram web down?”

Another post from @jimothy_buckets hilariously shares, “Everyone on Instagram running to Twitter to check if it’s down.”

How to fix “Sorry, something went wrong”

A user on Reddit reported the same problem, where the user complained about their account not working, and the message “Sorry, something went wrong” kept showing.

The user shared a solution to help fix the issue for an Apple device.

  1. Redownload the Instagram app. However, do not open the app just yet.
  2. Head to Safari and enable private mode.
  3. Search for the Instagram website. Do not enter the app. Click cancel and head to the website.
  4. Log in to your account. If the error message still shows, refresh the page 2-3 times. Click the blue Open button on the right side of your screen to head to the Instagram app.
  5. If the message still pops up, refresh the app. Head back to the website and refresh again.
  6. Click on the Open button again on the website and head to the app, which should fix the issue.

Social media reports of account suspension and false flagging

There are multiple reports of accounts that have been disabled and suspended unprompted, along with false flagging of breaking guidelines on X since February 3. However, HT.com could not independently verify this information.

A user on X complained, “Instagram is going crazy, suspending accounts for no reason at all, then false flaging as ‘breaking community guidelines, ‘ it’s just ridiculous.”

Another complaint on X noted that their account has been taken down three times and noted, “Woke up to my account being taken down again third time for this account and I haven’t broken a single rule instagram.”

Another X user wrote amid Instagram down news complaining about getting banned. They wrote, “Mine went down too, last night by 5. Sometimes they get banned. I think they were bots because they weren’t any I had followed back.”
