International Women’s Day Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday saluted the strength, courage, and resilience of Indian women and their accomplishments across various fields through a post on X (formerly Twitter). In a follow-up post, he announced that on the occasion, the Centre has decided to drop the price of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 100. The prime minister’s post reads, “This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti.” He said that by making cooking gas more affordable, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government aims to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment.
This year’s theme: Like every year, International Women’s Day 2024 will be celebrated with a unique theme. While the United Nations has designated this year’s theme as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, the campaign theme for this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. This campaign will lay a strong emphasis on recognizing the importance of diversity and empowerment in various spheres of society and underscoring the pivotal role of inclusion in advancing gender equality.
How India will celebrate the day: India too will see a number of organisations coming up with various events across states to mark the day. With Lok Sabha polls round the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to make some “big announcements” with a special focus on women voters on the occasion.
