Samsung Galaxy S25 series details leak: Launch date, specs and all you need to know

Every year, Samsung unveils the next-gen of the Galaxy S series in January, and this time is no different. The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to debut globally in early 2025. While several leaks have hinted at the January launch, a recent tip has indicated the exact timeline. According to the recent leak, tipster @sondesix posted on X that the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 is scheduled on January 22, 2025. The event is speculated to be commemorated at 10AM PT (10:30 PM IST). The tipster also revealed that the event will unveil three devices of the Galaxy S25 lineup: Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Barring the new launch details, the posts also listed that the event might also tease the Project Moohan XR headset. This project recently debuted at the Google event for Android XR. Last week, Google announced the Android XR, a new OS for headsets and smart glasses. The OS aims to bring immersive experiences to a range of apps, including Maps, Photos, and YouTube, in addition to a multiwindow, multitasking-enabled version of Chrome for browsing. While Android XR is still in its early stages, Google confirmed that it is determined to move quickly, with a Samsung-built device codenamed Moohan expected to ship in 2025.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series

The upcoming Galaxy S25 series, consisting of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, is set to make waves with incremental updates. According to recent leaks, the lineup will support up to 45W wired fast charging, the same as the Galaxy S24 series. However, there’s a notable downgrade in wireless charging for the standard Galaxy S25 model, which is expected to offer only 9W—down from the 15W of its predecessor. The base model will also retain its 25W fast charging capability. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra will use travel adapters labelled EP-T2510, supporting 45W wired fast charging. As with previous models, Samsung will not include charging adapters in the box, requiring users to purchase them separately.

All three devices will feature 5G connectivity, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and NFC. However, ultra-wideband (UWB) support will be limited to the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra, leaving the standard model without this feature. The Galaxy S25 Ultra will also come equipped with an S Pen (model EJ-PS938), developed by Wacom.

On the performance front, the series is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, with limited availability of Samsung’s Exynos 2500 processor making it unlikely to feature in the S25 lineup. Samsung has confirmed that all models will run on Android 15 with OneUI 7. While the base and Plus models will see only minor camera enhancements, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to upgrade its ultra-wide camera to a 50-megapixel sensor, replacing the current 12-megapixel one. It will retain its signature 200-megapixel main camera and advanced telephoto lenses.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to feature a flat frame with rounded corners, moving away from the squared-off design of its predecessor while keeping the flat display. This redesign brings the Ultra model visually closer to the standard and Plus variants, which are expected to maintain their current aesthetics. Additionally, the S25 Ultra will reportedly include a five-camera setup, similar to the S24 Ultra, with some design cues borrowed from the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, S25, S25+: Expected prices in India

The Galaxy S25 series is likely to see a price increase from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 compared to the previous generation. Based on historical pricing, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could be priced around Rs 1,34,999, while the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 might cost Rs 1,04,999 and Rs 84,999, respectively. However, Samsung may choose to keep the pricing unchanged to stay competitive, especially as rivals like Apple have maintained steady pricing for the iPhone 16 series. It’s worth noting that these prices are speculative, and official details are yet to be announced.
