Some fans are criticising Nothing Phone 3a Pro’s design

Nothing recently unveiled the design of their upcoming Phone 3a Pro on X, followed by a YouTube video. While the company is known for its unconventional approach to product design, it seems the look of the Phone 3a Pro hasn’t resonated well with everyone — at least for some, as per tweets and posts shared on social media. For those unaware, Nothing is set to unveil its upcoming devices — the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro — at a launch event on March 4.

The Phone 3a Pro features a transparent back panel, a signature design element of Nothing’s products. However, the triple-camera setup has become a focal point of criticism. The design includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel periscope lens, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, with a 50-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. While the specifications seem promising, the execution of the camera module has left many fans underwhelmed.

On social media platforms like X, some users have been vocal about their dissatisfaction. One user on X commented, “Where ugly meets aesthetically ugly, let’s go!”

Another user expressed their disappointment, stating, “Looks exactly how my 5 year nephew would draw.” To which Nothing cheekily responded by saying, “He must be super talented.”

Another user even challenged Nothing’s co-founder Carl Pei to defend the design, calling the circular camera module “hideous.”

The camera bump, which was first teased on February 18, has drawn comparisons to other smartphones like the OnePlus 13 and Vivo X200 Pro. Despite the unconventional placement of the sensors, the design has failed to impress some fans. Additionally, the Phone 3a series introduces a new button below the power button, speculated to be similar to the iPhone 16’s action button, which could trigger AI-related tasks.

While the design has faced criticism, the Phone 3a series still holds potential, especially if priced competitively. For context, the Nothing Phone 2a was launched at Rs 23,999, and its Plus variant at Rs 27,999. The Phone 3a, powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, is expected to be priced under Rs 30,000. However, some users have stated that if the price exceeds this range, they would rather wait for the flagship Nothing Phone 3.

In terms of specifications, the Phone 3a Pro is rumoured to feature a 6.77-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Panda Glass protection, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It is expected to come with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The device will run on Nothing OS 3.0, based on Android 15, and could include AI-driven features triggered by the new action button.
