US tariffs hit Stock Market: Indian indices opened in red on Thursday tracking Asian markets after US President Donald Trump announced his long-awaited reciprocal tariffs on various trading partners, a move that will impact the global economy and may result in retaliation from other countries.
Trump imposed a 26 per cent tariff on imports from India, lower than those on several Asian peers, including 36 per cent on Thailand and 32 per cent on Indonesia.
The BSE Sensex declined 0.46 per cent, or 355.38 points, to 76,262.06. The Nifty 50 fell 0.41 per cent, or 95.15 points, to 23,237.20 at 9:57 am on Thursday.
Among Asian equities, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 1.75 per cent, the Shanghai Composite fell 0.51 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 tumbled 3.14 per cent and South Korea’s KOSPI slumped 1 per cent.
